yes and no; i use the term "brainwash" in a more positive direction (for effect mostly). I did that in a college paper on why homeschoolers leave the public schools: they want to do the brainwashing. ( I shoul've used a smiley face).
On the more serious side of the word: to brainwash: "v 1: persuade completely, often through coercion"
coercion: "n 1: the act of compelling by force of authority 2: using force to cause something; "though pressed into rugby under compulsion I began to enjoy the game";" (dictionary.com)
It is in this sense that "brainwashing" is a good thing and an inevitable thing from any authority.
