Evangelical Hypocrisy

Tim Challies nails it. A+ Moves to the top of the class (not a big move for Tim, but still, trying to praise the guy...)

I have to agree with most of the commentors on Tim's blog, there is no comparison. I myself (sort of) enjoyed the Passion, mainly because the modern day telling of the crucifixion has watered down the severity of it. Death by this means was brutal, harsh, and shameful. However, the Roman Catholic fixation on Mary was obvious and at times distracting.
Whatever one thought of the movie, we must remember Mr Gibson is telling a story, as he sees it. It isn't his task to make sure his viewers are upto speed in their understanding of the scriptures. This is the task of the viewer alone, with the help of their pastor from the pulpit.

I'm glad others were critiquing the movie (even if not from a 2nd commandment viewpoint). And I am glad Kletois recognized the emphasis on Mary (Mel himself acknowledged this focus). However, some Christians "leaders" did not appeart to recognize this fact (http://polymathis.blogspot.com/2006/04/easter-mels-passion-confused-churches.html). They praised the movie--a catholic movie!--as the best evangelistic tool! So much for the foolishness of preaching...

hey, as long as we're plugging articles on that movie, here's one I wrote a day or two before the flick opened...polymathis' is better, but, still might be worth a look.
